Change would be so much easier if fear didn’t get in the way! We all hold so much ‘intellectual’ information, we know what we ‘should’ do but often feel incapable of actually just doing it.
What often stops us in our tracks is the fear of having an unfamiliar experience. It can be that simple. Of course, once you begin to experience something, it takes a while and a few repeats to become less unfamiliar. The just a few more repetitions for it to begin to feeling familiar.
In other words, initially set your mind to anticipate the oddness of the unfamiliar. Then bide your time as you practice the behavior, new way to think or whatever you’re attempting. Meanwhile, continue to let that experience become more habitual. Before long, it doesn’t stand out, feel odd or even garner that much attention any more. It’s quietly replaced an old way of thinking or behaving.
Fear isn’t associated with it any longer, as fear only pops up when we contemplate anything that is in the future. What you’ve changed in no longer in that categagory, it’s moved in to the ‘hear and now’.
At that point, you’ve changed something about yourself or your habits, and fear is no longer enveloping you.
Fear of change…
